Over the past years polymerase chain reaction (PCR) has proven to be an indispensable tool in the field of life sciences with applications ranging from DNA cloning to genetic fingerprinting. The evolution of DNA thermal cyclers has brought PCR almost into every laboratory; however, in some cases DNA samples have to be acquired and processed "on-site". With this in mind we have designed a portable and lightweight thermal cycler that can also replace larger systems in laboratories with limited bench space.
